South County Mental Health Center, Inc. is a private non‑profit behavioral healthcare provider serving south Palm Beach County from our headquarters in Delray Beach, Florida. Purpose The Forensic Screener conducts mental health assessments and coordinates services for individuals awaiting admission to or returning from state mental health treatment facilities. This role works closely with the Palm Beach County Jail, courts, hospitals, and community partners to support appropriate diversion and treatment placement.
Responsibilities
Conduct mental health assessments in the Palm Beach County Jail
Coordinate with State Attorney and Public Defender offices
Gather and review legal and mental health information
Participate in forensic team meetings and Mental Health Court preparation
Attend Mental Health Court and discharge calls as needed
Coordinate services, referrals, and follow‑up care for diverted individuals
Complete required documentation and reports
Qualifications Minimum
Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field
One year of experience in mental health and/or forensic settings
Knowledge of Florida Statutes 916 and 394
Preferred
Master’s degree in Human Services or related field
Experience with mentally ill offenders in the criminal justice system
Criminal Justice Specialist or Forensic Counselor certification (ACCFC or NAFC)
Knowledge & Skills
Experience working with individuals with severe mental illness
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work in jail, court, hospital, and community settings
Basic computer and documentation skills
Pay and Hours This is a full‑time Monday‑Friday position paying $25.00 per hour, with eligibility for the full benefits package.
