IMPORTANT INFO Position will report to Desert Mountain Park and/or Mansel Carter Oasis Park and will work the assigned shift listed below:

Weekend shift: Tuesday - Saturday

Hours: 5:00 am–1:00 pm

JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY Positions assigned to this class are responsible for performing semi-skilled parks and grounds preventative maintenance, repair or general maintenance activities.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is an intermediate level parks and grounds maintenance classification in the maintenance and operations job family. Incumbent(s) demonstrate working knowledge of routine work applications and troubleshooting/diagnosis, working independently and referring more complex issues to superiors. Assignments require learned skills and a good technical understanding of the basics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Maintains, repairs, replaces, and installs various types of irrigation systems or hardware, which includes heads, valves, solenoids, pipes, controllers, backflows, quick couplers, and/or other related items; modifies existing irrigation systems.

Installs, repairs, replaces, and maintains a variety of fixtures, systems, surfaces, and/or small structures which may include lights, furniture and plumbing; ensures playground equipment meets safety guidelines and other related items.

Installs street, caution, and regulatory signs; applies road markings.

Operates a variety of light equipment and/or large trucks, which may include dump trucks, mowers, trucks, tractors, and other related equipment.

Performs maintenance activities, which may include cleaning equipment, systems, and/or facilities; loading and unloading trucks; cleaning up debris; removing weeds; cutting brush; setting up and removing traffic cones and barricades; and performing other related activities.

Performs a variety of grounds maintenance duties in park areas, landscapes, and/or other related areas, including mowing and edging lawns, watering, weeding, and pruning trees, shrubs, and hedges; prepares and maintains athletic fields and courts; assists in maintaining the equestrian center.

Applies pesticides and herbicides for the control of pests and plant diseases; performs chemical application, including the handling, mixing, and application of regulated chemicals for weed control programs.

Investigates and resolves public complaints related to odor, back-ups, insects, signage, traffic signal malfunction, road obstructions and the like; responds to emergency after-hours situations, road closures, storm damage or other incidents.

Performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Driver's License;

Following hire, successful completion of the following:

Arizona Office of Pest Management Licensed Spray Applicator's Certification within 6 months of hire or promotion date;

Five (5) week arborist training class;

Eight (8) hours of formal playground safety inspection training;

Multiple equipment operation trainings;

Numerous minor safety trainings;

Maintain all certifications/licenses required at job entry.

Special Requirements This position has been identified as a safety-sensitive position by Human Resources, per State and/or Federal Law. Upon conditional offer of employment, the candidate selected will be required to undergo testing for alcohol and controlled substances within twenty-four (24) hours of the offer.

Operating grounds maintenance hand and power tools, light and medium equipment, and cleaning equipment;

Estimating time and material requirements for assigned projects and activities;

Performing routine grounds maintenance activities;

Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and other interested parties sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE Leaf blowers, mowers, trucks, tractors, trimmers, hedgers, pruners, and other related equipment.

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED Safety glasses, face shield, steel-toe shoes, work gloves, hearing protection, or other related equipment when operating leaf blowers, mowers, etc.
