The Gilchrist Immigrant Resource Center is seeking to fill a

PART-TIME

(20 hours/week) Customer Service Representative I position. This is a merit position that includes benefits. The position involves working during both day and evening shifts.

The Gilchrist Center currently has three locations: Wheaton, Gaithersburg, and East County. This position will be assigned to the East County location; however, the applicant must have the flexibility and ability to work in all locations. In East County alone, 37% of the population is foreign-born, and 42% identify as Black, 16% identify as Hispanic or Latino, and 14% identify as Asian.

NOTE: This position is primarily on-site, with limited telework authorized on an intermittent basis.

WHO WE ARE The Community Engagement Cluster is a dynamic community facing team responsible for strengthening relationships between residents, community organizations, and businesses. With a focus on making Montgomery County inclusive and accessible to all citizens, the Community Engagement Cluster is responsible for creating and maintaining a two-way dialogue between the administration and community where concerns can be translated into action across the administration. The Gilchrist Immigrant Resource Center is part of the Office of Community Partnerships located within the Community Engagement Cluster. The Gilchrist Immigrant Resource Center is Montgomery County's welcome center for immigrants, providing information and referral services and other programs that help immigrants succeed in Montgomery County. Working together with employees of government agencies and service providers, the Gilchrist Immigrant Resource Center aims to make Montgomery County one of America's most welcoming communities.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with excellent customer service, organizational, and administrative skills; be respectful of the opinions of others, listen well and respond to colleagues and customers with awareness and sensitivity to communication differences and must have a strong commitment to inclusion and respect for all cultures. The ability to work on teams AND independently is a must for the position.

The Customer Service Representative will provide customers with diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds information and referral to programs and services that meet their needs. This position will also provide administrative and programmatic support to program managers which includes:

Responding to inquiries from community members, at the front desk and by phone, providing accurate information about available resources and existing programs.

Assisting with program registration and coordination and volunteer support for classes taught at the Gilchrist Center.

Providing administrative support and record accurate data collection using Excel, SharePoint, and internal databases.

Representing the Gilchrist Center at outreach events, providing information about the center and other programs that would benefit immigrant residents.

Assisting with facility operations and maintenance.

Serving as lead worker to volunteers on site.

NOTE: This is a PART-TIME POSITION, with an anticipated 20-Hour work week.

Education High School Diploma or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.

Experience One (1) year of responsible experience performing a wide variety of general clerical, public contact, and customer service work providing information and/or directing requests over the telephone and at a public counter.

Equivalency An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Medical Exam The selected candidate will be required to complete a medical exam.

Physical Demands The employee will experience prolonged periods of sitting, listening, and speaking, as well as using fingers to operate a multi-button telephone, and lifting objects weighing between 20 and 50 pounds.

The applications of those individuals meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent, relevance of training, and experience in the following areas:

Customer service to culturally and linguistically diverse populations

Administrative organization

Bilingual proficiency in Amharic, French, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, and/or Spanish

Computer applications - Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)

Ability to work independently
