About The Position The County of Riverside’s Temporary Assignment Program seeks a Temporary Social Services Assistant to support the Department of Public Social Services across multiple locations throughout Riverside County.

About TAP The Temporary Assignment Program (TAP) recruits and hires temporary employees for all County departments, allowing individuals to learn about working for the County on a temporary at‑will basis.

Examples of Essential Duties

Make home visits to assess client family environment, including risks to health and safety, and provide assistance in data collection.

Review case records to formulate service plans and participate in the delivery of social service plans with professional staff.

Assist or complete application forms for County programs and advocate for clients to secure necessary services.

Offer guidance on home management, basic health, nutrition, and provide supportive counseling.

Help clients develop parenting, job, and daily living skills; resolve training barriers and teach youth responses.

Act as liaison between professional staff and clients, clarifying instructions and sharing information about services and community resources.

Assist clients with transportation to County services, ensure safety compliance, and support placement procedures.

Supervise youth awaiting placement, manage belongings, and document visitation quality.

Write reports on client status, conduct searches for missing parents/guardians, and maintain electronic records in the centralized database. Interpret client needs when needed.

Minimum Qualifications Option I Experience: Six months as a Community Services Assistant in any Riverside County department.

Option II Experience: One year performing client‑directed services in a social service, healthcare, mental health, or non‑county agency.

Option III Education: Completion of 15 semester or 24 quarter units from an accredited college or university, preferably with coursework in psychology, sociology, social welfare, or related behavioral sciences.

All Options Knowledge of basic public social service programs, policies, and laws; current field issues; behavioral patterns of the disadvantaged; cultural and ethnic attitudes; principles of interviewing and problem solving.

Ability to work with diverse agencies and individuals, interview and evaluate clients, implement social service plans, interpret policies, and communicate effectively across cultures.
