Interpretive Services Supervisor – Parks County of Riverside – Regional Park and Open‑Space District

Overview The Interpretive Services Supervisor leads educational, interpretive, and revenue programs across seven Riverside County nature centers and historic sites. The role rotates among the sites, providing supervision, inspiring staff, developing branding, managing budgets, and expanding revenue opportunities.

Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and evaluate natural and historical interpretive programs and events.

Coordinate training sessions for field staff and instruct personnel in interpreting natural, cultural, and historical areas.

Provide public outreach to local schools, encouraging interest in educational programming and aiding teachers in meeting standards.

Organize student field trips, displays, and presentations on regional interpretive resources.

Plan and implement marketing plans, monitor budgets, and justify expenditures.

Support interpretive staff scheduling, employee evaluations, and site operations, ensuring adequate staffing and operational hours.

Prepare periodic reports on activities and correspondence regarding the park interpretive function.

Qualifications

Graduation from a recognized college in natural sciences, park administration, or a closely related field; experience may substitute on a year‑for‑year basis.

Two years’ experience in nature, wildlife, or interpretive functions for a parks or forestry department, educational institution, or museum.

California Class C (or above) driver’s license required.

Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, Adobe, and a parks POS system or similar software desired.

Preferred certifications: Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG), California Naturalist, or equivalent.

Work Schedule 5/40 schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; weekend, holiday, and overtime required for special events and departmental needs.
