Leidos Defense Systems Mechanical Manufacturing Facility is seeking an

Electron Beam Welder / Operator

to join our Welding team at our Huntsville, Alabama location. This position will be responsible for running, setting up and maintaining our ProBeam electron beam welding system equipped with a Siemens Sinumerik controller. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong mechanical and technical aptitude, and the ability to run critical high‑precision welds used in aerospace, defense and high‑performance industrial applications.

Primary Responsibilities

Operate a ProBeam EB welding system using a Siemens Sinumerik CNC controller.

Set up and prepare EB weld fixtures, tooling, and part alignment.

Load, edit, and run EB weld programs.

Perform beam alignment, focus adjustment, and parameter verification.

Monitor and maintain high‑vacuum chamber integrity.

Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and weld symbols.

Verify material condition, joint prep, and pre‑weld cleanliness.

Follow controlled process instructions and record production data.

Conduct visual inspection, dimensional checks, and weld quality verification.

Support preventive maintenance on vacuum systems, pumps, and beam column components.

Comply with all safety, high‑voltage and radiation protection procedures.

Troubleshoot weld quality issues and collaborate with engineering on corrective action.

May perform fitting of assemblies and manual TIG welds.

Works under direct oversight.

Have basic understanding of router operations and sketches; know when to stop and ask for clarification.

Familiarity with machine tools, precision instruments, and good manual dexterity.

Actively participate in continuous‑improvement objectives, sharing knowledge, eliminating waste, and embracing single‑piece manufacturing flow where applicable.

Basic Qualifications

High school diploma or GED with at least 3 years of relevant experience.

Experience with EB welding processes on various parts, assemblies, and components.

Ability to set‑up and operate EB and CNC controls for the EB welding process.

Experience with Siemens Sinumerik controls (or willingness to learn quickly).

Interpret and execute production using drawings and blueprints.

Ability to follow detailed work instructions and quality processes.

Planning and general set‑up of EB welding operations, semi‑manual and/or automatic, within the limits of certifications in accordance with customer requirements and current methods and process sheets.

Check welds visually and dimensionally with precision measuring instruments for conformance to blueprints and specifications.

Utilize working knowledge of welding practice and weld ability of current metal groups within their certification.

Be a flexible team player and participate in problem solving and continuous improvements.

Adhere to AS9100 and other quality standards.

Must be able to work overtime as needed.

Must be a US citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

CNC-related experience.

Prior experience on a ProBeam, Sciaky or Cambridge vacuum EB welding machine.

NADCAP experience in controlled special processes.

Experience in aerospace, medical device, defense or precision manufacturing environments.

Knowledge of high‑vacuum systems (turbo pumps, cryo pumps, roughing pumps).

Siemens Sinumerik programming experience.

Huntsville Manufacturing – Come break things (in a good way), then build them smarter.
