Qualifications

Current holder or eligible for Kansas school counselor certification (6‑12).

Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience at the high‑school level.

Strong personal commitment to promoting the effective schools program.

Demonstrated ability to communicate with students, staff, administration, and parents.

Demonstrated knowledge of effective guidance techniques.

Reports To Building Principal

Basic Function / Purpose To intervene in and assist students in learning communication skills and problem‑solving techniques necessary to avoid future crises; to serve as liaison among student, teacher, parent, administrator; to organize special programs for student growth and enrichment; and to assist students with future educational and vocational plans.

Physical Requirements The employee must frequently walk, sit, talk, hear, bend, stoop, and reach; and occasionally manually lift up to 50 lb. Interaction with staff is required and extended hours may occur. Vision requirements include close, distance, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Performance Responsibilities

Counsel students with interpersonal social adjustment problems.

Counsel students with academic or attendance problems.

Conduct group counseling and classroom guidance.

Serve as liaison among student, teacher, parent, administrator, and community.

Identify students with special needs and suggest alternatives to meet those needs.

Assist students in orientation, course selection, and setting up programs of study.

Conduct testing and interpret results to help students understand their aptitudes, abilities, and achievement.

Assist students with their plans for post‑high‑school education or vocational choices.

Maintain student record files.

Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

Term of Employment Teacher contract + 10 additional duty days.

Salary Range Determined by placement on teacher salary schedule.

Evaluation Frequency Job performance will be evaluated at least once per year.
