Hiring for NIGHTS

Position Summary Responsibilities include sampling and performing routine laboratory testing of aggregate material. Use prescribed standards to determine chemical and/or physical characteristics for quality control purposes and to determine conformity to specifications. Set up, adjustment and operation of laboratory equipment and instrumentations such as agitators, scales, ovens and other lab equipment required. Work around industrial equipment and machinery to obtain materials samples from production facilities such as conveyors, stockpiles, rail cars and/or customer sites. Record test results in AggQC and/or standardized forms. Report and communicate test results internally and externally (DOT and other customers as required). Clean, maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment. Inspect stockpiles for proper construction. Inspect haul units for cleanliness. Maintain test data files. Assist in investigating and resolving customer technical problems. Become GDOT certified within a reasonable time. Participate as a team member. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience required; technical degree preferred

State certified for aggregate field and laboratory testing in GA preferred; ability to obtain state certification required

Minimum of 2 years' experience in quality control in an aggregate or construction environment

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Proficient in MS Office and computer skills

Must have basic math skills

Proactive in safety and works well in a team environment

Minimal travel required

Must be able to work 12 hour shifts, possible weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed

Must be able to read equipment operating manual

Must be able to complete pre-shift inspection report

Must be able to read and interpret gauges

Possess basic mathematical aptitude to complete daily reports

Must be able to wear all required safety equipment

Must be able to communicate over CB radio or with hand signals and warning sounds, with coworkers regarding movement of vehicles and mobile equipment

Must be able to perform duties in a safe manner

Must be service oriented with proven ability to work in a TEAM environment

Physical Requirements

Must be able to climb on and off equipment

Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel

Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs

Must work outside in all weather conditions consistent with extreme ambient temperatures: heat, cold, wetness, dryness, dust, and noisy conditions

Must be able to work at various heights

Working Conditions Larger equipment is typically air conditioned. There will be times when outside assignments may require periods of work in all weather conditions-heat, cold, wet or dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.
