Job Description
The Personal Banker is responsible for acquiring new consumer and small business customers and expanding relationships with existing customers. He or she serves as a proactive member of the branch team as the initial sales and service contact for new and existing customers. The Personal Banker recognizes complex product and financial services opportunities as well as refers to Investment Services, the Residential Mortgage Lending Department, and commercial banking to help customers achieve their financial goals and the team to achieve business goals. He or she serves as a backup‑teller and performs a variety of functions in paying and receiving as well as serving as a backup‑loan assistant performing a variety of functions in preparing and filing documents, tracking insurance, maintaining loans as needed, and reviewing loan applications to verify completeness.
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old
High school diploma or GED required
Customer service experience, including cash handling, required
Banking experience preferred
Knowledge of bank operations, policies, and procedures preferred
Able to operate related computer applications and business equipment, including adding machine, typewriter, copy machine, coin and money counting machines, telephone, scanner, and branch capture machine
Professional appearance, dress, and attitude
Responsibilities
Represents the Bank in a courteous and professional manner
Verifies transactions, monitors deposit amounts, examines documents for proper endorsement and negotiability, and detects and resolves discrepancies promptly
Maintains security of assigned work area, places cash in teller drawer, and locks all drawers when leaving work area
Ensures that customers' requests and questions are promptly resolved
Maintains privacy of customer account information
Directs calls to appropriate person/department as necessary and records and relays messages as appropriate
Performs file maintenance and account changes as needed, such as address changes, etc., and stays up to date on pending documentation, such as verifying accounts opened by other branch personnel
Presents and explains Bank services and products to customers and assists in meeting their financial needs
Opens and closes accounts by obtaining information from the customer and entering into the computer system
Interviews, takes applications, gathers information, and processes preliminary documentation on loan requests
Operates teller terminal, processes assigned cash and transactions, and balances at end of day
Seeks opportunities to refer products and services for increased business to the Bank
Enters loan information into automated software approval systems
Assists in servicing loans by processing such items as payments, payoffs, problem loan workout arrangements, loan draws, address changes, payment extensions, collateral releases, and payment due date changes
Advises customers of loan approval or denial and explains loan denials precisely and clearly to customers
Coordinates and processes loan closings and ensures loan documents are explained and acknowledged with customers and all disclosures are provided
Helps other area personnel as required
Keeps management informed of area activities and any significant problems or concerns
Completes special projects as assigned
