BERKELEY ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE, INC SYSTEM ENGINEER (will consider System Engineer I or II) Position Description OBJECTIVES

To gather accurate load and electrical system data, perform all studies and calculations pertaining to the distribution system, and make recommendations regarding changes and/or improvements that are needed to provide safe, reliable and economical electrical service.

To assist the Engineering & Operations Departments as needed in the planning, design and maintenance of the distribution system and the specification and evaluation of new equipment to be purchased for use on the distribution system.

To work closely with the Information Technology personnel, the GIS area, Operations Center and necessary software providers to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the data being shared between the customer information system, GIS, outage handling and dispatch systems and engineering software.

To provide technical direction and guidance to all Engineering and Operations personnel in the installation, maintenance, repair, operations and switching activities of the electrical distribution system and associated equipment.

Position Specifications Education A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering is required. Passing the Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) exam is expected.

Experience Will require five (5) years of experience in this position and/or similar position to become proficient and eligible for promotion to a System Engineer II. Becoming a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of S.C. will be required for promotion.

Job Knowledge Should have an effective working knowledge of RUS requirements and procedures as it applies to planning, purchasing, construction and retirement associated with an electrical distribution system. Should be familiar with the National Electrical Safety Code, National Electrical Code, OSHA regulations and Cooperative policies. Must have a sound knowledge of electrical distribution system fundamentals and the associated special equipment. Must be able to model the electrical distribution system, perform all necessary calculations and apply the results to make recommendations for system improvements.

Abilities & Skills

Skilled in working and communicating with employees, members and the public.

Proficient in the use of computers and software.

Skilled in planning, designing and preparing specifications to meet the Cooperative's requirements for electrical distribution.

Must have a valid South Carolina Driver's license.

Working Conditions Usual office conditions. Subject field work on special projects. Subject to irregular hours and outside work in adverse weather conditions during emergencies. Some travel outside service area for periods up to a week.
