Description of Work

The Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention is committed to reducing and preventing juvenile delinquency by effectively intervening, educating, and treating youth to strengthen families and increase public safety. Job Duties
Assist the Food Service Supervisor and provide support for the facility’s Child Nutrition Program.
Ensure compliance with the Department’s Federal Child Nutrition Program regulations.
Provide nutritionally adequate meals that meet federal Child Nutrition Program meal patterns.
Maintain required records, reports, and inventories in compliance with federal and state regulations.
Requisition food and supplies as needed.
Maintain high standards of personal cleanliness and food sanitation.
Interpret and follow standard recipes, prescribed menus, and oral/written instructions.
Check the cost and quality of items received and ensure proper storage.
Comply with Department policies and procedures.
Assume responsibilities designated by the Youth Development Center Food Service Supervisor II, facility business officer, facility director, the Child Nutrition Program Administrator, and Child Nutrition Program Administrative Officer.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management Preferences
Knowledge of preparing different types of foods in large quantities.
Knowledge of the temperatures of various foods.
General knowledge of the Federal Child Nutrition Program.
ServSafe Certification (preferred).
Work Schedule
Monday–Sunday. Shifts vary; candidates must be able to work on‑call hours, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis to meet the needs of juveniles and their families.
Benefits
This is a full‑time position (40 hours per week). Supplemental benefits, as well as additional employment information, are provided by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. The department adheres to all federal, state, and executive order requirements and is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
Minimum Education and Experience
Education and/or experience in food preparation that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade, equivalent to one year of experience in a commercial and/or institutional setting.
NC01 Salary Range: $31,200–$46,991.
