The SPED Teacher is responsible for conducting an educational assessment and developing and implementing an individualized tutorial plan based on the individuals learning needs and abilities.

Essential Functions Include:

The SPED Teacher creates a safe environment for clients, provides direct supervision of clients, empowers clients, and teaches new tools for coping to clients. The Teacher will participate as an integral member of the treatment team and in developing the continuing care plan with regard to educational placement upon discharge. The Teacher will provide age and developmentally appropriate education in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Compass Intervention Center.

Teach smaller classes of between 8-15 students with additional staff support

Gain experience with behavior management techniques

Implement Differentiated Learning/Instruction

Provide direct and indirect instructional support

Instruct students in core academic subjects using a variety of techniques to reinforce learning and to meet students' varying needs and interests, while establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.

Teach socially acceptable behavior, as determined by the students' individualized education programs (IEPs) by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system.

Modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities and/or need academic support in a small group setting, based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.

Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive learning for all students.

Meets with parents to discuss their children's progress and to determine priorities for their children and their individualized educational needs.

Confer with parents, clinical therapist, testing specialists, the Director of Education, and other professionals to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) designed to promote students' educational, physical, and social/emotional development.

Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities

Develop plans for effective communication, monitoring, and follow-up of students in inclusive classroom settings.

Assist in collection of data for providing appropriate classroom and tiered interventions.

Qualifications Position Requirements:

Bachelors Degree in Education. Masters Degree preferred

Prefer previous experience working with children and adolescents with special educational needs.

TN Elementary, Secondary Education current Licensure. SPED Certification.

Prefer knowledge of effective teaching skills and educational strategies with a special education population, individual and group management skills, therapeutic relationships and processes, age specific growth and development; limit setting and crisis and behavior management.
