HHS - Volunteer Iowa Economic Assistance VISTA
Join Iowa HHS to build sustainable systems that help families access new Summer EBT and related benefits. As AmeriCorps VISTA, you’ll design volunteer engagement, activate partner networks, and create accessible outreach and navigation tools that reduce barriers to food security and economic stability. You’ll standardize workflows, train volunteers and partners, and embed materials in Iowa HHS systems so the work continues after your service year. This role is in VISTA’s core principles—anti‑poverty, community empowerment, sustainable solutions, and capacity building—and aligned with Volunteer Iowa priorities in Healthy Futures and Economic Opportunity. You’ll collaborate across HHS divisions, schools, food banks and community organizations—using plain‑language, culturally responsive approaches and accessibility best practices. If you’re passionate about building durable solutions and mobilizing Iowans to serve, this position offers a chance to make statewide impact while growing your skills in volunteer management, partnership development, and performance‑informed program design.
Member Duties:
Build a volunteer pipeline with onboarding, training, and retention; create simple referral pathways for Summer EBT/SNAP outreach; develop multilingual outreach & navigation toolkits and train community partners; pilot and iterate processes in priority communities; track outputs/outcomes and share results; embed SOPs and sustainability plans in HHS systems; transition stewardship to staff; engage Iowans in Days of Service to boost outreach and recruitment.
