Responsibilities Clinical Practice: Supports the orthopedic provider in clinic with rooming patients, updating EMR, home exercise teaching, pre/post‑op care including MRSA swabs and suture/staple removal, preparing patients for injections, assisting in set‑up of sterile procedures, and preparing medications. Performs patient exams and specialized testing, reviews and interprets diagnostic testing (X‑Rays, CT, EMG, MRI, ultrasound) under provider supervision, educates and provides durable medical equipment or casting as ordered, follows up on patient phone calls and MyChart messages in a timely manner.
Clinical Program: Collaborates with orthopedic team to provide safe and quality care, confirms HIPAA standards are maintained, coordinates follow‑up care and referrals when appropriate.
Patient Safety, Quality, and Research: Creates and supports a culture of safety, role‑models service excellence, identifies and resolves issues, participates in safety and quality improvement efforts, promotes clinical trials and research activities, fosters academic and clinical investigation through participation in research projects, literature review, data collection, and entry.
Professional Development and Education: Participates in enhancing professional development of the athletic trainer and other health‑care providers involved in orthopedic patient care.
Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy or Allied Health Sciences (required).
Minimum two years’ experience as an athletic trainer (required).
Licensure Nationally certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), Connecticut state licensure (required).
BLS required.
Special Skills Casting and experience in outpatient orthopedics preferred.
Physical Demand
Must be able to assist mobility‑impaired patients and assist in patient transfers.
