Job Title Continuing Education Assistant

Department College of Optometry (2001-College of Optometry)

Job Summary To provide administrative support to the Continuing Education Program for the College of Optometry.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Language ability to compose clear and concise reports.

The ability to effectively, professionally and tactfully interact and communicate with administrators, faculty, students, and guests.

Ability to follow through to bring a task to completion and attention to detail.

Proficiency using Microsoft Office, the internet and email and the ability to learn other technology necessary for the position.

Good organizational skills and the ability to work independently.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Required Qualifications

Education: Student must be currently enrolled in any program within Western University of Health Sciences and in good academic standing.

Student must meet Federal Work Study (FWS) qualifications, which are:

Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Must have a completed current FAFSA.

Must have remaining financial aid unmet need.

Must be in good academic standing at Western University of Health Sciences.

Preferred Qualifications

College of Optometry students preferred.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) abilities preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Assists with logistical tasks to support the College of Optometry (CO) Continuing Education Department.

Corresponds with optometrists via email to send certificates on behalf of Continuing Education.

Performs a variety of clerical duties, e.g., photocopies, filing, scanning, preparation of materials, excel databases, etc.

Creates flyers and posters for events.

Assists at events as needed.

Assists with other program projects as assigned. The University/College has the right to add/change duties at any time.

Posting Details Work Schedule: Approximately 3 hours per week – schedule varies.

Expected Pay Scale Minimum: $17.00 Hourly

Maximum: $17.00 Hourly

Describe Work Environment Duties of the Continuing Education Assistant are normally performed in a typical office setting. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in this setting is usually moderate due to telephone calls, equipment, and normal office traffic.
