DESK ASSISTANT/PAGE – SOUTH KNOXVILLE BRANCH LIBRARY Purpose of Job

The purpose of this classification is to perform a variety of tasks related to library patron services. This position is part-time.

Essential Functions The Desk Assistant/Page is responsible for the following essential functions:

Performs all tasks necessary for shelving and organization of library materials

Perform circulation functions on internal database

Assists patrons in using public access catalog and in locating materials/information

Retrieves materials to fill patron requests and processes appropriately

Answers phone calls and replies to emails from public

Monitors stock on shelves and ensures materials are correctly shelved

Retrieves materials to fill patron requests and process appropriately

Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office

Perform other duties as required

Minimum Training & Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required: Associates degree preferred

Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for employment into the position

Specialized Knowledge

N/A

Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours

Basic understanding of computers, printers and other office equipment

Ability to focus and demonstrate great attention to detail

Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team

Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to engage in occasional light physical activity. Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Ability to discern colors.

Monday 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm
