Part-Time Library Assistant II – Sewell Mill and Powder Springs
This part‑time library assistant II position is located at Sewell Mill and Powder Springs Library. The position at Powder Springs will work at the circulation and reference desks, and assist the Youth Services Librarian with programs and outreach. The position is scheduled for 18 hours per week, including nights and weekends, plus an additional 4 hours (1:00‑5:00 p.m.) on scheduled Sundays.
Responsibilities include:
Provides customer service to library patrons and the public: greets visitors and directs them to areas of the library; provides assistance and information related to library services, fees, procedures, city information, and directions.
Researches book titles, availability, patron records, and related information; reserves materials for patrons; notifies patrons about overdue books, arrival of reserved books, or other issues; assists patrons with the use of library equipment.
Returns library books and materials to appropriate shelving areas; shelves or places materials in proper order; reads labels to ensure correct branch assignment; locates and searches for missing materials.
Checks library materials in and out using the automated circulation system; counts paperbacks checked out; retrieves books from drop; inspects materials for damage; routes and sorts materials on book carts; separates new books for display.
Performs general tasks related to library operations, including sorting and organizing donated materials, moving book carts, maintaining general appearance, cleaning counters, watering plants, or running errands.
Monitors inventory levels of library supplies and initiates requests for new or replacement materials.
Answers telephone calls, provides information and assistance, takes and relays messages, and directs calls to appropriate personnel.
Provides computer and reference assistance to patrons: helps find information, instructs patrons in library systems, suggests internal and external resources, and conducts informal training as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
One year of customer service or related experience (or equivalent).
Preferred Qualifications For Powder Springs
Enjoys working with children and teens.
Ability to create flyers and displays to promote collections, services, and programs.
Experience with art activities and/or making crafts.
Possesses artistic or creative skills.
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors
Essential functions performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
