Medical Laboratory Scientist 2 PRN
Location: Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee
Job Summary The Medical Laboratory Scientist 2 PRN is responsible for processing and testing specimens across multiple departments while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and patient confidentiality. This role requires strong analytical skills, the ability to work under high stress, and excellent communication with clinical staff and laboratory colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
Processing and testing in one or more laboratory departments during a shift.
Mastery and practice of laboratory policy and procedures.
Intimate knowledge of testing methods theory, instruments, and tools used for diagnostic utility.
Quality Assurance including kit validation, instrument maintenance, proficiency testing, environmental monitoring, reagent preparation, diagnostic reporting, and alarm management.
Incident reporting and documentation.
Upholding professional and medical ethics, confidentiality, and PHI and patient privacy regulations.
Specimen collection specialist.
High complexity specialty management.
Assisting technologists and the Administrative Laboratory Director as needed and where appropriate.
Technical Capabilities
Diagnostic Testing (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates proficiency in diagnostic testing in practical applications.
Equipment Maintenance (Fundamental Awareness): Limited experience, training, direct exposure, or past experience conducting maintenance activities in the area of assignments.
Data Analysis (Fundamental Awareness): Some training, exposure, or limited experience in data analysis; routine client analytical work; knowledge of reporting analytic tools such as ACL, SQL, SAS.
Quality Assurance (Fundamental Awareness): Understands the goal of increasing organizational productivity and individual performance by making the products and services within your work assignments more efficient and more effective.
Position Qualifications
Certifications: Medical Laboratory Technician – American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
Work Experience: Relevant work experience in a clinical laboratory environment.
Experience Level: Less than 1 year.
Education: Graduate of an approved discipline specific program (Required).
