Senior Fleet & Equipment Mechanic – Role Overview As a Senior Fleet & Equipment Mechanic (Solo Role) at Our World Energy, you will serve as the primary, on‑site mechanic responsible for independently maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing the company’s fleet of trucks, trailers, and field equipment. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to work autonomously without a supporting team of mechanics.

You will be responsible for end‑to‑end diagnostics and repairs across multiple vehicle systems, including complex engine and transmission work, while ensuring fleet reliability, safety compliance, and minimal downtime for field operations. Your work will directly support the successful execution of solar installation projects.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Maintenance & Repair

Independently inspect, diagnose, service, and repair company fleet vehicles (gasoline and diesel), including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, electrical systems, and hydraulics

Perform complex mechanical repairs and replacements, including engine and transmission repair or replacement, as required

Execute preventative maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, fluid services, and safety inspections

Trailer & Equipment Maintenance

Diagnose, service, and repair enclosed trailers, flatbeds, hauling units, wiring, axles, hitches, and braking systems in compliance with DOT standards

Maintain and repair solar construction and field equipment, including generators, trenchers, forklifts, lifts, compressors, and related tools

Preventative Maintenance Program

Develop, manage, and execute preventative maintenance schedules for all fleet vehicles and equipment

Accurately document inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and parts usage in fleet maintenance logs

Emergency & Field Support

Respond independently to vehicle and equipment breakdowns at job sites

Perform on‑site diagnostics and repairs and coordinate towing or recovery when necessary

Parts, Inventory & Documentation

Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to identify required parts and repair procedures

Source, order, and manage parts and supplies in a cost‑effective manner

Maintain an organized inventory of tools, parts, and consumables

Compliance & Safety

Ensure all work complies with OSHA, DOT, and company safety standards

Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant work environment

Required Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to accurately diagnose vehicle issues across multiple systems

Proven, hands‑on experience with engine and transmission repair and replacement

Ability to work independently in a solo mechanic role without on‑site support

ASE certification or equivalent professional experience working on vehicles model year 2010 or newer

Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation and identify required parts for repairs

Required Experience & Technical Skills

3–5+ years of experience as a fleet, automotive, or heavy equipment mechanic in an operational environment

Proven experience diagnosing and repairing trucks, trailers, and light/heavy equipment

Strong knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems

Welding and fabrication skills required

Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to prioritize and execute repairs independently

Certifications & Licensing

Valid driver’s license required (CDL preferred, not required)

ASE certification strongly preferred

DOT inspection certification is a plus

Tools & Physical Ability

Must own basic mechanic’s tool set.

Able to lift 75+ lbs. and work in outdoor conditions.

Comfortable handling field repairs under varying conditions.

Measures Of Success

Maintain fleet uptime of 95%+ to support field operations.

Complete preventative maintenance tasks on schedule with 98%+ compliance.

Respond to emergency breakdowns within 2 hours on average.

Reduce repeat repairs or rework rates to less than 3% quarterly.
