The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a dedicated and hardworking team player to join us in building and maintaining a convenient, safe, and innovative statewide transportation system.
Pay rate:
$22.756
per hour.
Pay Differential for CDL Holders
$1.00 per hour after 1 year of continuous service
$1.00 per hour after 3 years of continuous service
$1.00 per hour after 5 years of continuous service
Job Duties
Perform highly skilled and complex diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of heavy‑duty trucks, road construction and maintenance equipment, medium and lightweight vehicles, and other motorized equipment.
Fabricate and repair equipment and parts using a variety of welders, welding materials, and methods to adapt incompatible parts, replace unavailable parts, secure attachments, and repair damage.
Calibrate systems on heavy‑duty vehicles and equipment that distribute various materials according to road and weather conditions to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Inspect new equipment to meet specifications and set it up to be road‑ready.
Evaluate equipment to identify adjustments needed for auxiliary attachments, equipment, and operating systems.
Install, troubleshoot, repair, and replace mechanical, electrical, computer, and hydraulic system components to restore equipment to a safe and operational state.
Maintain hydraulics systems; install and monitor electrical systems; repair steering, suspension, brake, drivetrain, fuel systems; overhaul or replace diesel and gasoline engines.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Practical work experience performing automotive/diesel maintenance and repair, including use of computerized diagnostic instruments and equipment, or post‑high‑school vocational or technical coursework in automotive/diesel mechanics with instruction in computerized diagnostic equipment and automotive/diesel mechanical maintenance and repair practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in Automotive Diesel Mechanics, experience repairing trucks or heavy equipment, welding and fabrication experience, basic computer skills, and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 90 days of hire through NDOT’s in‑house CDL training program.
Must be able to report to work outside scheduled hours for snow and other highway emergencies.
