At Lifepoint Health, the Assistant Vice President (AVP) Nursing Operations provides nursing oversight across multiple facilities, ensuring consistent nursing standards, operational efficiency, and a trauma‑informed, recovery‑oriented model of care.
Position Summary The AVP partners with facility Chief Nursing Officers (CNOs), Market CNOs, Vice President of Nursing Operations and system leaders to strengthen workforce strategies, regulatory readiness, and quality outcomes, ensuring nursing leadership excellence across facilities aligned with enterprise goals.
Essential Functions
Nursing Leadership & Oversight – Strategic oversight of nursing operations; supervision of CNOs; mentorship of nursing leaders; culture of accountability and professional growth; regulatory compliance across all markets.
Operational & Workforce Excellence – Workforce planning, staffing optimization, retention strategies; performance monitoring for nurse engagement, turnover, contract labor utilization and satisfaction; productivity and efficiency standards.
Clinical Quality & Patient Safety – Evidence‑based nursing standards; continuous improvement initiatives; patient safety, infection control and risk mitigation strategies.
Strategic Alignment & Integration – Partnership with VP Nursing Operations and division leadership to operationalize system‑wide nursing initiatives; collaboration on capital priorities and new service line development; best‑practice sharing across markets.
Governance, Reporting and Communication – Regular performance reviews with CNOs; preparation of reports for division and system leaders; communication of performance insights and opportunities.
Development and Implementation of Nursing Strategies – Support patient‑centered, evidence‑based care across all facilities; development and implementation of department policies and procedures; design and optimization of programs that address patient needs and improve outcomes.
Leadership and Professional Development – Mentorship and support of nursing leaders; development of training programs; continuous compliance with healthcare regulations and accreditation standards.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Deep knowledge of nursing scope of practice and standards of care for psychiatric mental health nursing.
Strong leadership skills with a history of developing high‑performing teams.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with experience using data to guide clinical and operational decisions.
Familiarity with healthcare regulations, including those specific to behavioral health and mental health services.
Additional Requirements Ability to travel routinely across assigned markets; commitment to advancing ethical, high‑quality, and patient‑centered care in behavioral health.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions Requires prolonged sitting and some bending, stooping, and stretching; requires eye‑hand coordination and manual dexterity; requires lifting papers or boxes up to 50 pounds occasionally; performed in an office environment with frequent contact with staff and the public.
