Salary Range Base pay: $50,844.00/yr - $80,655.00/yr (actual pay based on skills and experience).

Duties Description

Instruct a course(s) recognized by the New York State Education Department.

Prepare or modify curriculum and course outlines.

Prepare daily or weekly lesson plans and conduct a schedule of formal instruction for residents of an Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) facility.

Additional duties will be discussed in detail during the interview.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or in a title eligible for 70.1 transfer.

Open to the Public: Title is part of the NY HELPS program. For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment if the candidate meets NY HELPS minimum qualifications.

Preferred Specialty: Social Studies 7‑12. Certification must be at the 7‑12 grade level.

Starting Salary (by Teacher grade) Teacher 2 / SG – 13: $50,844

Teacher 3 / SG – 15: $56,807

Teacher 4 / SG – 17: $63,361

Requirements For Appointment At Each Level

Teacher 2: Current New York State Education Department initial certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty.

Teacher 3: Current New York State Education Department permanent/professional certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty.

Teacher 4: Current New York State Education Department permanent/professional certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty; two years of post‑certification teaching experience in that same specialty.

NY HELPS Program Notes For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non‑competitive appointment, meaning no examination is required as long as the candidate meets the minimum qualifications. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non‑competitive status converted to competitive status without competing in an examination.

Background Investigation Requirements

Criminal Background Check (CBC) including state and federal criminal history; convicted felons or misdemeanors and falsified information may bar appointment.

Screening against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR).

DJJOY prospective appointees checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL); names appearing on the SEL for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect are barred from appointment.
