The purpose of Houston Airport System (HAS) Maintenance Business Unit is to effectively deliver self‑performed maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports. Purpose of the Position

Prevent mechanical failure of equipment, identify and correct safety hazards, and inspect, repair, clean and maintain several types of equipment including pumps, rotating and reciprocating equipment, plumbing fixtures, and machinery throughout the airport complex. The duty may be assigned at all HAS facilities (IAH, HOU, and EFD). Candidate must obtain required badge access (including Custom Border Patrol access) within six months of hire. Responsibilities

Install mechanical equipment and components. Repair, refurbish, and maintain pumps (hydraulic, oil, gas, diesel) and other rotating/reciprocating equipment. Operate vehicles and specialized equipment (drain cleaners, sewer machines, vacuum trucks, trailers) for restroom and facility maintenance. Practice equipment and part conservation; maintain parts. Perform additional maintenance activities such as painting, HVAC repairs, carpentry, carpeting, plumbing, concrete, and roofing. Rehabilitate and monitor equipment, facilities, and systems (e.g., elevators, escalators, automatic doors, ticket dispenser gates, HVAC). Provide preventive maintenance. May lead and train lower‑level personnel. Working Conditions

The position requires considerable physical exertion: climbing ladders, lifting up to 80 pounds, frequent awkward positions, and extended standing. Exposure to heat, cold, moisture, air pollution, chemicals, and minor trauma is common. Work rotation includes weekends and holiday shifts. Minimum Requirements

Educational Requirements

Specialized training in mechanical or electronic equipment, typically up to 18 months of education or training beyond high school. Experience Requirements

One year of experience in building or mechanical maintenance. License Requirements

Valid Texas driver’s license and compliance with City of Houston driving policy. A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required. Preferences

Preference will be given to eligible veteran applicants who possess the qualifications necessary for the duties of the position under Executive Order 1‑6. General Information
