Maintenance Mechanic I

Workdays & Hours:
Monday – Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:30 PM (subject to change)
Description Of Duties / Essential Functions
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on playground equipment, skate parks, exercise equipment, soccer goals, basketball courts, and tennis nets.
Perform manual repairs, operating hand tools, and inspect equipment and facilities to ensure cleanliness and safety.
Maintain records of maintenance and repair work performed.
Be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays if needed.
Report unsafe conditions and equipment.
Assist as needed to perform other duties assigned.
Position designated among essential personnel under the City of Houston's Emergency Management Policy.
Working Conditions The position involves considerable physical exertion: climbing ladders, lifting heavy objects (up to 80 lbs) frequently, and assuming awkward positions for long periods. Routine exposure to heat, cold, moisture, and air pollution. Periodic exposure to chemical substances and minor physical trauma such as cuts and burns.
Minimum Requirements Education Requirements Specialized training or up to 18 months of education/training beyond high school. Vocational competence in operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.
Minimum Experience Requirements No experience required.
Minimum License Requirements Valid Texas driver’s license required; comply with City of Houston’s driving policy (AP 2-2). May require a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Preferences
Welding preference.
Veteran Preference:
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants meeting qualifications.
Selection / Skills Tests Selection process will involve application review and/or interview.
Safety Impact Position This position is subject to random drug testing. For a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.
Salary Information Pay Grade 8. Salary determined by qualifications and other employee rates.
