Senior Consultant, Business Program Management
role will lead the overall communication strategy for the
NF Shared Portfolio and Sales and New Business Portfolio.
This role focuses on driving alignment on messaging across the portfolio, executing communication strategies, and creating and managing tactics that support business outcomes. The senior consultant will develop effective strategies, ensure consistent messaging, and lead communication to impacted teams across NF.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead the design, development, production, distribution, and measurement of portfolio communications projects and events.
Monitor and assess all projects and pivotal initiatives and communicate status to senior leadership.
Act as a liaison between project managers and business, driving collaboration and coordination.
Lead communication and incorporate feedback from customers on proposed, developing, and completed projects and initiatives.
Consult on complex communication strategies and production.
Promote portfolio awareness and generate overall support for portfolio activities to achieve workstream objectives.
Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate proposed business development efforts and coordinate initial program/project proposals and charters, recommending strategic alignment.
Consult with leadership and project teams to define scope, specifications, business needs, and write proposals, risk assessments, budgets, and timeframes for major programs and activities.
Determine allocation and funding for programs and projects.
Develop work plans to identify needed resources for program charters, requirements, UAT strategies, training, and system implementation.
Monitor all projects, communicate status to senior leadership, and incorporate customer feedback.
Serve as liaison between project managers and directors to ensure collaboration across business unit leadership, program staff, senior management, technology, customers, and vendors.
Identify technology and human resource commitments, providing recommendations for prioritization and resource reallocation.
Identify gaps, overlaps, conflicts, and timelines, and facilitate resolution and mitigation.
Maintain log of common issues, risks, and changes to promote organizational learning.
Develop and maintain program/project management methodologies and standards for assigned business units.
Consult and coach leaders and team members on new trends, practices, tools, and procedures.
Act as liaison to program management staff in other areas and integrate workflow to support company strategy.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications Individuals should possess a firm understanding of current NF business processes, strong communication and relationship‑building skills, familiarity with standard project management practice, and experience leading the design, development, and execution of communication strategies for large portfolios. Proven leadership skills, ability to collaborate, remove roadblocks, and act as a primary liaison are required. Ability to articulate a vision, influence senior leadership, and build positive relationships with executives is necessary.
Required knowledge includes support of Sales and New Business initiatives such as Data Intelligence, Commissions, Digital efforts, Territory Management, New Business Automation, and AIMS. Minimum of 10 years in program/portfolio work is required.
Education & Experience Education:
Undergraduate degree required; studies in business, insurance or related field preferred. MBA or other graduate‑level education is desired.
License/Certification/Designation:
Project Management Certification strongly preferred. Industry designations such as CPCU, CLU, and/or ChFC highly desired.
Experience:
Ten or more years of related project/program management experience.
Typical Skills and Abilities Proven knowledge of project management tools, concepts, and methodologies. Demonstrated proficiency in key program/project management competencies, effective interpersonal skills for interaction with project managers, senior leadership, and steering committees, and ability to manage large, sophisticated programs. Must maintain focus on holistic program view and integrate separate projects. Must influence change.
Reporting Relationships Reports to Officer; may manage a team of up to three associates.
Work Conditions & Schedule Location: Must reside within 35 miles of Columbus, OH (One Nationwide Plaza, Columbus OH, 43215).
Work schedule: 2 days in office, 3 days remote. Not eligible for overtime (Exempt). Normal office environment, occasional travel, non‑standard work may be required. Valid driver’s license required.
Work authorization: This role does not qualify for employer‑sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program.
