A Day In The Life As an Accounting Specialist with the Humane Society, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our mission to save and improve the lives of animals every day. Your day begins with reviewing financial transactions, reconciling accounts, and ensuring our records are accurate and up‑to‑date. Throughout the week you’ll collaborate with team members across departments, process invoices and payments, and maintain the financial integrity that keeps our programs running smoothly.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.

2+ years of general accounting work experience preferred.

Strong attention to detail and understanding of internal controls.

Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; ability to learn other software as necessary.

Sage Intacct Accounting Software usage is a plus.

Manage and process accounts payable and receivable with accuracy and timeliness.

Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts.

Assist with month‑end closing and financial reporting.

Maintain organized financial records and documentation.

Support budgeting and expense tracking for various departments.

Collaborate with staff to ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.

Physical Demands/Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold, temperature changes, occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors and dander.
