At the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP), the mission is to improve opportunities for Michigan families from preschool to postsecondary. This position is responsible for state licensing of child care organizations within a specified geographical area. The role includes conducting inspections, investigating complaints, providing technical assistance, initiating enforcement actions, testifying at hearings, and consulting with other professionals.
Responsibilities
Conduct state licensing inspections of child care homes and centers.
Investigate complaints about child care facilities.
Provide technical assistance and consultation to applicants and licensees.
Initiate enforcement action when necessary.
Testify in administrative hearings.
Consult with law enforcement, fire safety inspectors, and protective services.
Serve the Pontiac Region and support MiLEAP’s mission.
Required Education and Experience
Master’s degree in child development, elementary education, early childhood education, guidance and counseling, or social work.
Two years of post‑bachelor’s professional experience licensing child day care homes or centers, child foster care homes or facilities, child care placing agencies, or related child care facilities; or experience as a child day care provider trainer; investigator of high‑risk child abuse or neglect cases; or professional child day care or preschool education worker or teacher in pre‑kindergarten to third grade.
