Under general supervision, the Bruin Scholars Program Coordinator 2 will coordinate asset-based, student-centered programming to support a cohort of first-generation, low-income, transferring out of foster care and SLCC students in general to succeed at SLCC. Critical responsibilities for this position include (1) case management of PACE Bruin Scholars and Bruin Scholars including individualized mentoring and support, (2) designing and delivering programming to ensure students gain access to critical college and career success knowledge and skills, and (3) leveraging data and reporting tools (i.e., MySuccess software technology) to identify, track and document challenges students are facing in their academic journey and collaborate with others to mitigate these challenges.
The Coordinator will be part of a team who supports the success of students by preparing new and returning students to thrive in higher education. The Coordinator will be part of this team and work collaboratively to implement elements of a comprehensive student success plan, which includes new student orientations, a summer bridge intervention, the Bruin Scholars program, peer mentoring, and college success workshops. The Bruin Scholars Program Coordinator 2 must:
Responsibilities
Motivate, encourage, mentor, and teach students how to navigate Salt Lake Community College to successfully transfer or gain meaningful employment.
Create and advocate for a welcoming environment for Salt Lake Community College students.
Understand higher education and student affairs functions, including admissions, orientation, registration, financial aid, placement, academic advising, basic needs, on‑ and off‑campus resources, and college policies and procedures.
Possess knowledge of PACE & Bruin Scholars Programs, SLCC credit and clock hour programs of study, courses, and career pathways and careers.
Commit to creating an environment where all individuals feel respected, valued, and supported.
Demonstrate initiative, creativity, teamwork, conflict resolution, and decision‑making skills.
Employ excellent communication skills, including active listening and responding skills.
Feel comfortable using technology.
Be dependable, have excellent organizational skills, and pay close attention to details.

Case manage 120 to 300 students providing care and support toward academic, social, and life skills development.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop programming for student success, college access, and career exploration.
Maintain and update student files, including recording all interactions with students in the MySuccess case management database.
Work collaboratively with other high school PACE staff, Office of Student Success staff, and other campus partners.
Assess the needs of students and create interventions or services to meet these needs.
Organize, process, and disseminate significant amounts of information accurately and when relevant to students.
Work well under pressure and function independently with integrity under general supervision.
Utilize basic computer operating systems (e.g., Microsoft Office Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) (i.e., Student Access, MySuccess, and Banner).
Train, coach, and supervise the work of peer mentors.
Prioritize assignments, plan, and carry projects to completion.
Learn quickly, work well under pressure, and work ethically with confidential information.
Advocate for all students, prioritizing students who may be at risk of leaving college.
Assist in planning and facilitating academic recovery programming and coaching for students.
Evaluate student success interventions and create reports and establish recommendations.
Work a flexible schedule which may include mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with individuals from varied backgrounds and experiences to build strong working relationships across the College.
Demonstrated skill in working respectfully and productively with people from a wide range of experiences and needs within the college community.
Percentage of Duties Outreach (5%)
Develop relationships with PACE Program High School Advisors to understand PACE high school students' needs and support them in applying to SLCC.
Partner with PACE Program High School Advisors to coordinate high school visits and campus tours.
Collaborate closely with the Summer Bridge Program to ensure a seamless transition for students entering the Bruin Scholars Program.
Bruin Scholars Programming (80%)
Recruit and case manage a cohort of Bruin Scholars, a program designed to empower a select group of students to achieve academic and career success through personalized mentorship, access to key campus resources, transfer guidance, and enriching community‑building experiences.
Track Bruin Scholars retention, GPA, graduation rates, and satisfaction rates.
Develop and implement programming in partnership with other staff and faculty for consistent bi‑monthly meaningful and educational contact with Bruin Scholars.
Hire, train, and supervise peer mentors and other paraprofessionals.
Establish and maintain relationships with various departments in Student Affairs and around the College.
Connect students with SLCC divisions and schools, student‑led organizations, and community partners to foster their right to belong at SLCC.
Learn about student interests to provide adequate incentives for program participation.
Advocate on behalf of students experiencing hardship and find ways to connect them to opportunities and resources designed to enhance their academic experience.
Work with staff, peer leaders, and faculty to advance the retention, success, and completion goals of OSS and SLCC.
Present information about SLCC student life and academic culture to groups of students.
Explain degree prerequisites, course sequencing, course modalities, registration holds, and other enrollment information to new students.
Data & Reporting (10%)
Document student interactions in MySuccess (SLCC student information system) (e.g., one‑on‑one meetings, program participation, email, and text message communication).
Track raised flags/codes, referrals, and success plans using MySuccess and work with college personnel to ensure students are being supported to succeed in college and beyond.
Assist in reporting as necessary (e.g., run school‑level reports to document progress, demographic data, etc.).
Other Duties (5%) Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, educational psychology, sociology, social work, communications, ethnic studies, STEM, or related fields.
Two‑to‑four years of full‑time direct professional experience.
Proven experience working with a highly varied student body and staff, as evidenced by advanced cultural competency, critical thinking, and exemplary welcoming practices.
Reliable transportation and/or a valid driver’s license are required to travel to multiple educational institutions and program activity sites.
Preference
A master’s degree in a related field.
Experience working in higher education, specifically student affairs.
Bilingual or multilingual ability and related cultural competency.
