Position Summary: Lee’s Marketplace is a family‑owned grocery chain committed to an enjoyable shopping experience. The Assistant Manager/Key Holder supports overall store operations, assumes responsibility for daily and evening store functions, and leads the team in delivering exceptional guest service.

Primary Position Duties:

Open and/or close the store, secure the building, set alarms, and prepare registers and departments for business.

Serve as Manager‑on‑Duty in the absence of the Store Director, overseeing all departments and maintaining store‑wide accountability.

Assist with receiving deliveries, stocking, merchandising, and maintaining store cleanliness and organization.

Provide hands‑on leadership, support task completion across all departments, and mentor team members.

Ensure guest service standards are upheld, resolve concerns, and foster a friendly, helpful environment.

Monitor and delegate tasks left by department managers to ensure timely completion.

Respond to urgent issues or incidents (equipment failure, staffing concerns, customer complaints) with sound judgment.

Communicate effectively with store leadership, reporting key updates, issues, or successes from shifts.

Promote a safe, clean, and efficient work environment, addressing safety concerns and following procedures.

Build a positive and productive team culture.

Guest Service:

Greet and assist guests in a friendly, courteous manner.

Provide knowledgeable answers and resolve inquiries promptly.

Maintain a high level of morale and open communication with guests and team members.

Process guest requests efficiently and finalize purchases in a friendly manner.

Utilize Lee’s Marketplace website to assist customers.

Community Engagement:

Foster relationships with local vendors and community organizations.

Participate in community events and promotions to drive traffic to the store.

Product Handling:

Stock shelves, maintain displays, and assist with product placement and merchandising.

Monitor product freshness and quality, rotating stock and checking expiration dates.

Unload deliveries and organize stock rooms as needed.

Package and label products using a computer program.

Analyze sales data to identify trends and develop strategies to improve performance.

Assist with inventory audits and ordering processes.

Cleanliness and Safety:

Maintain a clean, organized work area.

Follow and implement all safety and sanitation procedures.

Report hazards or equipment issues to management.

Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations, including a valid food handlers permit.

Cash Handling:

Assists the Frontend as backup Cashier during rushes.

Operate POS system efficiently and accurately.

Accept various forms of payment, including cash, card, check, WIC, and EBT.

Follow store policies on coupons, returns, exchanges, and refunds.

Ensure security of cash and other financial transactions.

Team Collaboration:

Communicate effectively and collaborate with team members to achieve store goals.

Encourage teamwork and guest service at all times.

Participate in meetings and training sessions.

Assist other departments as needed.

Operate in a fast‑paced, sometimes crowded sales environment with tact and patience.

Promote a harassment‑free environment and report potential issues to management.

Position Requirements:

Age Requirement: 21 years or older.

Availability: 6:00am‑11:00pm any day Monday‑Sunday; holidays and weekends required.

Must be 21 years of age to apply and have a valid driver’s license.

Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 lbs, and use hand‑tools; lifts may involve floor to shoulder and overhead lifting.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent (Required).

3+ years previous experience in retail (Preferred).

Experience in managing inventory and controlling costs.

Familiarity with POS systems, inventory management software, and basic computer applications (Preferred).

Skills and Abilities:

Strong leadership, training, and staff development skills.

Ability to motivate and inspire a team to achieve goals.

Strong analytical and decision‑making skills.

Excellent communication and verbal skills.

Proficiency in math and computer applications.

Ability to learn new technology quickly.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with high customer interaction.
