SALARY: Level I $19.83 - $29.74 hourly (salary will normally begin at the first step of the range, dependent upon education and experience)

Level II $21.06 - $31.59 hourly (salary will normally begin at the first step of the range, dependent upon education and experience)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Riverton City is seeking a full-time Parks Maintenance Worker - Level I or Level II, in the Public Works Department, Parks Division. This position participates in the maintenance and operation of developed parks maintenance zones within the Parks Division. Responsible for all maintenance practices associated with a comprehensive park system, such as irrigation, landscapes, turf, and open spaces.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (These examples are not all inclusive)

Inspect, adjust, and make repairs on sprinkler systems, including sprinkler cleanout at the end of the season, using both culinary and secondary water systems

Perform maintenance of open spaces, which includes mowing, weed control, and fence repair

Performs daily maintenance of City parks by cleaning park pavilions, park restrooms, picking up and removal of trash, and other general park maintenance

Performs park safety inspections and makes light repairs

Operate various types of heavy, light, and complex equipment used in the maintenance and construction of City parks, the cemetery, and recreation facilities, including backhoes, front-end loaders, mowers, tractors, hand tools, etc. (level II)

Operate various types of heavy and light trucks used in the maintenance and construction of City parks, cemetery, and recreation facilities, including ten-wheel dump trucks, roll-off/hook trucks, etc. (level II)

Assist as needed with landscape construction, soil preparation, aerating, planting of trees, shrubs, sod, and lawn seed

Prepare sports fields for play

Assist in the maintenance of the City Cemetery, including preparation, opening, and closing of burials

Performs equipment maintenance, including but not limited to changing fluids, sharpening blades, cleaning plugs, cleaning filters, and repairing small engines

Perform the set-up and take-down of special events as needed

Assists with snow removal

Assists high-level parks staff in maintaining records, reports, and monitoring contractor maintenance service

Maintains the security of city parks

Participates in on-call rotations, responding to after-hour calls

Any other assigned responsibilities that would be required to maintain effective operations of the department

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Level 1

High School Diploma or equivalent

Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License with a good driving record

Must be at least 18 years of age

1+ years' experience in public works/parks is preferred

1+ years' experience in irrigation and landscaping techniques is preferred

1+ years' experience operating light to heavy equipment preferred

Must have a Utah Pesticide Applicator License with an ornamental and turf category or obtain one within 6 months of hire

Level 2

High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred to have a valid Utah Commercial Drivers' License with a good driving record

Must be at least 18 years of age

Must have a Utah Pesticide Applicator License with an ornamental and turf category

3+ years' experience operating light to heavy equipment required

3+ years' experience in public works/parks is required

3+ years' experience in irrigation and landscaping techniques is required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Ability to follow oral and written instructions

Must be strong with decision-making abilities and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and other employees

Ability to perform manual labor

Ability and willingness to work outside in various environmental exposures

Strong multi-tasking skills required

Excellent customer orientation skills required

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screen, a background check, provide a copy of their current Utah driving record, pass a Human Performance Evaluation (HPE) able to lift 50 lbs., and provide employment verification with Form I-9. This position has a six-month probation period.
