DEFINITION Perform a wide variety of semi-skilled duties in the construction, maintenance, and repair of City parks, recreational ball fields, and landscaped areas; perform skilled landscape maintenance. This position must work well independently and with a team while providing customer service and human relations skills which support the City of Brighton’s mission and values.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Perform a wide variety of park maintenance, including but not limited to: Mowing operations (mowing, trimming, blowing, edging)

Irrigation operations (Sprinkler head replacements and adjustment, main line/lateral repair and replacements, valve repair and replacement)

Turf maintenance (fertilizing, seeding, aerating, topdressing, pesticide application)

Ballfield maintenance (dragging, painting, lining, and renovating sports fields)

General maintenance (trash cleanup, litter removal, cleaning restrooms)

Park safety (hazard mitigation, graffiti cleanup, playground inspections and repairs)

Snow removal (utilizing trucks, snow machines, shovels)

Operates Park maintenance equipment such as dump trucks, trucks, trailers, utv, backhoes/excavator, front loaders, skid Steer, tractors, mowers, edgers, and blowers, power tools and maintains hand tools and assigned equipment.

Appropriately Responds to requests and inquiries from the public and other city departments and contractors

Follows proper safety precautions related to work performed.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned; including work with the Cemetery and Open Space departments, as well as other City departments and contractors.

Ability to work after hours, evenings, and weekends for departmental needs and events.

Provides 24 hour on-call response as needed for emergency maintenance, after hours events, programs, and facility rentals as well as snow and ice removal from public facilities.

City Event set up and tear down as well as maintenance during the event.

QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:

Current methods, techniques and tools and the operational characteristics of mechanical equipment used in the construction and maintenance of landscaped areas and park facilities.

Uses and purposes of general construction tools and equipment.

Safe work practices.

Ability to:

Perform semi-skilled maintenance, construction and repair work in parks, and other Landscaped areas.

Operate a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner in routine situations.

Effectively lead other workers as assigned.

Work independently in the absence of supervision.

Identify and correct landscape problems early in their development.

Use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, and power tools and equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and the public.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Maintenance Worker I:

High School diploma or equivalent.

One (1) year of experience in parks landscaping, or closely related field desirable.

Maintenance Worker II:

High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience performing landscape maintenance and repair.

At least one certification related to Park Maintenance required within 6 months of hire.

Maintenance Worker III:

High School diploma or equivalent and associate degree with four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience performing landscape maintenance and repair.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Bachelor's Degree desirable.

At least two certifications related to Park Maintenance is required at hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have the ability to perform heavy manual labor: shoveling, digging, lifting, pushing, pulling, and dragging.

Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Stoop, bend, and crouch for extended periods of time.

Work in confined spaces.

Work in extreme temperature conditions including extreme heat (>100 degrees) and extreme cold ( SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid Colorado driver's license with a safe driving record.

Possession of or ability to obtain required certification(s), within 6 months of hire.

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Ability to complete FEMA IC 100 and IS 700 training within six (6) months of hire.
