The Dispatcher reports directly to the Area Manager and is responsible for the safe dispatching of quality ready‑mix concrete deliveries, providing a professional level of customer service with all customers, and assisting the Manager in safely and efficiently maintaining and operating the ready‑mix concrete plant facilities.
Availability The Dispatcher is expected to work Monday through Friday and Saturdays as required. The Dispatcher must be flexible to adjusting daily start and/or finishing times to meet the needs of our customers. A standard workday is 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Saturday work is scheduled as needed. On rare occasions, Sunday and holiday work may be required.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties Safety
Support, encourage and promote a positive safety culture.
Report to the Manager and/or the Director of Safety, Environmental & Human Resources in a timely manner any workplace incidents, near misses, and accidents which may involve personal injury or property damage.
Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory plans, including Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan, Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasures, Hazardous Communication Plan, Confined Space Plan, Lockout Tagout Plan, Respiratory Protection Plan, and any other plans designated by the Director of Safety, Environmental & Human Resources, or the officers of the company.
Participate in, and at times, lead weekly safety talks.
Personnel
Assist the Manager in the supervision and coordination of the employees.
Assist the Manager in ensuring compliance with the company Drug & Alcohol program.
Order Scheduling & Customer Service
Answer the telephone and give information to callers in a polite, courteous, and respectful manner.
Greet and assist customers/visitors to the plant.
Accurately take and enter orders for company products into the company's computer‑based batch and dispatch systems.
Accurately compute amounts using a calculator, including calculations of the cubic yard quantity of concrete required for a customer order.
Using the computer based dispatching system, schedule the orders for delivery and dispatch loads of ready‑mix concrete product with a focus on maximizing available resources and ensuring high quality customer service. Find a way to say "yes" to a customer.
Secure MPC tax numbers from customers and record in the order‑entry/dispatch system as required.
Quote prices for company products within guidelines established by the Manager.
Refer customer inquiries with special pricing considerations to the Manager for follow‑up.
Build strong relationships with area customers and work to ensure that B & B Concrete is their preferred ready‑mix supplier.
Maintain radio communication with drivers to provide guidance when problems or questions arise.
Utilize the dispatch system to accurately monitor and track the trucks dispatched from the plant.
Prepare ready‑mix concrete delivery tickets and counter tickets as required.
As necessary, receive cash payments associated with C.O.D. orders from drivers.
Coordinate with representatives of the MDOT, NCRS, Corps of Engineers, etc. as required.
Coordinate with other ready‑mix plants on the allocation of truck/driver resources.
Assist the Manager in the monitoring and follow‑up on past due uncollected pen account credit sales, returned checks, and other payment‑related problems of the Fulton, Houston, and Tupelo divisions.
Administrative
Assist the Manager in the completion of any required weekly, monthly, or annual reports, as required.
Production
As needed, open and close the plant.
As needed, accurately proportion and batch a load of ready‑mix concrete (including computing the amount of water to be added to each load) using a computerized batching system.
As needed, post receipts and use of raw materials to the material inventory records on a daily basis.
Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
As needed, analyze and resolve, if possible, production problems.
As needed, monitor the operating performance and condition of the plant(s) and associated equipment.
As needed, assist in coordinating and supervising the independent truck haulers.
Quality Control
Be familiar with and ensure compliance with the company's quality control manual.
Ensure conformance of company's products to job specifications.
Earn and maintain, at the company's expense, a current ACI Concrete Field‑Testing Technician – Grade I certification and be ready to perform as needed the quality control elements of ready‑mix production.
Other Responsibilities
Complete required annual training.
Maintain excellent working relationships with internal staff, customers, vendors, suppliers, and others.
Analyze and try to resolve work‑place problems.
Maintain neat, orderly files and records.
Prepare the production, inventory, & sales reports for the concrete bunker blocks made with returned concrete.
Ensure that other records and reports associated with the Fulton, Houston, and Tupelo divisions as assigned by the Manager are properly maintained.
Attend workshops, schools, or seminars recommended by senior management which would increase knowledge and enhance the employee's capability to perform the job respons.
