Editor Assistant, Union Square Kids
Reports to: Executive Editor
Union Square Kids is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative, and resourceful editorial assistant to join our editorial team. The role works closely with the executive editor to manage day‑to‑day author/agent relations; read submissions and provide feedback; participate in editorial and author/agent meetings; handle project trafficking, title management, scheduling, and meeting logistics; and develop acquisition and sales materials. The assistant also supports senior‑level department editors with material needs, coordinates meetings, acts as liaison for tracking systems and processes, and oversees editors’ needs. This position works closely with design, editorial, production, sales, and marketing teams to ensure efficient workflow and maintain a collaborative environment.
Position Requirements
Exceptional organizational skills, particularly with creating and maintaining project tracking systems.
Keen ability to pay close attention to detail.
Adept at problem solving and multitasking.
Careful attention to detail and timely follow-up, both internally and externally.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams); Adobe Acrobat; Dropbox; working knowledge of FileMaker Pro, InDesign, and Photoshop is a plus.
Proven ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
Strong interest in children’s trade publishing and understanding of the marketplace.
Position Qualifications
4‑year college degree or equivalent experience
Minimum 2 years of related office experience
Flexible hybrid schedule with 3 days a week in the office
