Customs Entry Writer
Location:

Salary:
Up to $70,000 base (dependent on experience)

Office-based or hybrid (depending on experience)
A midsized, internationally active freight forwarder and customs brokerage in the Chicago (ORD) area is expanding its customs team due to increased import volumes. The company is seeking an experienced Customs Entry Writer to support high-volume import operations while ensuring full compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations.
This role offers stability, growth, and the opportunity to work within a dedicated customs team handling a broad range of commodities.
Role Overview
The Customs Entry Writer will be responsible for preparing and submitting accurate customs entries for U.S. imports, ensuring compliance with CBP and other government agency requirements. This is a hands‑on position requiring strong technical knowledge and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and submit U.S. Customs entries
Ensure compliance with CBP and applicable Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements
Classify goods using HTS codes and calculate duties, taxes, and fees
Review commercial invoices, packing lists, and supporting import documentation
Submit Post Summary Corrections (PSCs) when required
Respond to CBP requests, exams, and documentation inquiries
Coordinate with internal operations teams, import staff, and clients
Maintain accurate and compliant records within the customs/forwarding system (e.g. CargoWise or similar)
Provide timely updates and support to customers regarding entry status
Requirements
Proven experience as a Customs Entry Writer within a customs brokerage or freight forwarding environment
Strong working knowledge of CBP regulations and import compliance
Experience with HTS classification and duty calculations
Ability to handle entries independently from start to finish
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Experience using CargoWise or similar customs systems preferred
