Automotive Technician & Fabricator (Tech 1)
Join our elite team as an aftermarket Custom Car Technician with an emphasis in welding/fabrication. This is an opportunity to showcase your automotive technician and fabrication skills working on custom and race vehicles.
General Description The ideal candidate will be responsible for disassembling, fitting components, problem solving, and assembling custom vehicles from start to finish with a focus in welding and fabrication tasks. You will develop, design, and build fabricated parts for the automotive custom and motorsports team. Organization, cleanliness, and punctuality are essential.
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM
Lunch between Noon to 1:00 PM
Weekends and overtime as needed
To Be Successful A strong fabrication mindset, willingness to continuously learn, and ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team are required. Experience welding and fabricating steel, aluminum, and specialty alloys, along with mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems, is essential.
Responsibilities
Perform advanced welding and fabrication on steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and specialty alloys for custom cars and race vehicles
Layout, design, and fabricate roll cages and safety structures per motorsports safety standards (SCCA, NASA, FIA, or series‑specific regulations)
Design, fabricate, and install custom aluminum panels, brackets, mounts, and structural components
Repair and modify race car chassis, including tube‑frame and aluminum structures, maintaining structural integrity and safety compliance
Build, fit, and finish custom exhaust systems, including headers, collectors, and heat shielding solutions with stainless steel alloys
Diagnose, repair, and integrate mechanical systems such as suspension, steering, braking, drivetrain, and cooling systems
Collaborate with designers, engineers, and technicians to execute bespoke modifications and performance upgrades
Ensure all work meets Crown quality standards, safety requirements, and applicable motorsports regulations
Maintain organized fabrication workflows, fixtures, and tooling to support efficient, repeatable results
Specify and price labor and materials for fabrication jobs
Interpret manuals, design specifications, technical blueprints, SAE, and metric drawings
Specify and install OEM vehicle components
Specify and install aftermarket performance components for automotive systems
Keep a clean and orderly workstation
Assist in shop maintenance and cleaning as required
Keep up with industry trends through continued education
Maintain business paperwork for client projects and the company
Skills and Qualifications
8+ years experience as an automotive welder and fabricator, preferably in high‑end custom, motorsports, manufacturing, or restoration environments
Team‑oriented mindset with strong communication skills
Strong mechanical aptitude with automotive mechanic work history
Demonstrated experience designing, laying out, and fabricating roll cages and safety structures to recognized motorsports standards
Proficiency in TIG and MIG welding across aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, and chromoly tubing
Strong mechanical background with hands‑on experience in critical vehicle systems and performance applications
Demonstrated ability to fabricate from scratch, read drawings, and translate concepts into precise, finished components
Experience fitting and finishing custom exhaust systems and complex aluminum body panels
High attention to detail with a commitment to fit, finish, and structural integrity
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment
Motorsports experience (club, professional, or support roles) strongly preferred
Shop fabrication equipment is provided, but you must supply your own hand tools
Ability to operate common automotive fabrication equipment
Basic knowledge of plasma cam software and machine operation is recommended
Ability to complete projects within a deadline
Self‑motivation with a focus on delivering the highest level of customer satisfaction
Willingness to gain necessary training by participating in seminars and classes
Flexibility to learn quickly in a fast‑growing environment with aggressive timelines
Clean driving record
Ability to lift 40 lbs without aid
