Natural Resource Program Specialist 2 (Permanent) – Elk Forest District, Cameron County
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania invites qualified applicants to join our dedicated team as a Natural Resource Program Specialist 2 in the Elk State Forest District #13. Candidates will play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the facilities that allow visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of our forests and ensuring essential operations remain accessible to all.
Position Purpose The primary objective of this role is to support the District Forester in the effective administration, management, planning, and safeguarding of the natural resources within the Elk State Forest District #13. Responsibilities include providing leadership, overseeing personnel, coordinating programs, and managing equipment necessary to achieve district, bureau, and department objectives. The position may undertake additional assigned tasks to contribute to the district’s initiatives and resource management efforts.
Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full‑time employment
Work hours: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch
Telework: Up to 1 day per week from a Pennsylvania‑approved location with a secure high‑speed internet connection; telework is subject to change at any time
Travel and overtime may be required as needed
Salary: The starting salary may be non‑negotiable in some cases

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
One year of experience as a Natural Resource Program Specialist 1 (Commonwealth or equivalent federal job title) *
Three years of professional experience in natural resource management or education, plus a bachelor’s degree in a related field (natural resource management, parks and recreation, biology, forestry, ecology, geosciences, environmental sciences, or a closely related field) *
Equivalent combination of experience and training
Other Requirements
Valid non‑commercial Class C driver’s license
Must meet the Pennsylvania residency requirement
Must be able to perform essential job functions
Legal Requirements
Pass a background investigation
Position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law, requiring a conditional offer of employment that includes satisfactory criminal history reports (PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI fingerprint clearance)
