Location: Galway Elementary School, Silver Spring, MD. 0.5 Full Time Equivalent (Part‑time, Day Job). Working months: 10. Schedule: Part‑time. Shift: Day. Salary: $32,295 – $65,736 (based on education and experience).
Responsibilities Under the direction of the school principal, plan and provide ELD instruction for students identified as eligible via the state‑mandated proficiency test. Collaborate with administrators, counselors, teachers, and other staff on individual Emergent Multilingual Learner (EML) needs. Serve as a resource for students, parents, staff, and community on EML matters, cultural and linguistic differences, and the ELD instructional program. Explain the ELD program to parents and other stakeholders. Physical demands as required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.
Qualifications Considerable knowledge of second‑language instruction methods and techniques. Ability to work effectively with administrators, counselors, and other staff in organizing and implementing the ELD program. Fluency in a language other than English preferred. Ability to support students’ adjustment to the academic and cultural environment in MCPS. Excellent oral and written communication and human‑relations skills. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Holds Maryland teacher certification in ESOL/ELD.
