Hikemaster (2026) – YMCA of the Rockies

Base pay range $15.41/hr - $15.41/hr
Position Summary The Hikemaster leads groups of 2 to 20 miles on nature walks, engages guests in conversation for long periods, and provides customer service and administrative support at the hiking desk.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Safely lead groups on hikes and nature walks of 2 to 20 miles in various weather conditions
Engage in conversation for long periods and keep people involved and educated
Sign up to lead hikes by the weekly deadline
Attend and participate in weekly Hikemaster staff meetings
Know and adhere to hiking policies and procedures set forth by YMCA of the Rockies
Answer questions and give guidance and hiking suggestions at the hiking desk in Mountain Center
Use a computer to assist guests in enrolling for guided hikes and enter data before and after hikes
Handle cash/credit cards and use a cash register to record deposits for borrowed hiking equipment and merchandise sales
Call hikers prior to hikes to confirm attendance and arrange logistics
Perform all other duties as assigned
Requirements / Qualifications
Must have up-to-date certifications in Wilderness First Aid and CPR (can be obtained during training)
Must have successfully completed the Hikemaster In Training (HIT) program (can be obtained during training)
Must have knowledge of RMNP and surrounding areas
Must have a high degree of skill working with people of all ages
Must be at least 21 years old
Must meet acceptable criminal background‑check standards
Must be able to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays

Must be able to hike 5–20 miles per day in remote areas
Must be able to carry up to 50 pounds of gear
Must be able to converse with people of all backgrounds for up to 15 hours at a time
Must be able to squat, stoop, bend, and stand for long periods of time
