Gems Setra is seeking a dedicated Material Handler to support our production and warehousing operations in Plainville, CT. The role is open to candidates who are organized, detail‑oriented, and committed to lean manufacturing principles.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver materials to production areas using Just‑in‑Time (JIT) inventory practices.
Collaborate with production teams to ensure materials are available when needed, reducing downtime and avoiding overproduction.
Use Kanban or pull systems to manage material replenishment, ensuring materials are only delivered when needed in the correct quantities.
Maintain optimal inventory levels, avoiding both excess inventory and shortages by using Lean techniques such as Kanban, 5S, or FIFO (First‑In‑First‑Out) systems.
Participate in regular stock counts and cycle counts to maintain accurate inventory data.
Transport materials and products safely between locations, ensuring the flow of materials is smooth and free from bottlenecks.
Apply 5S principles to organize storage areas, minimizing handling and maximizing efficiency.
Identify waste reduction opportunities and contribute ideas for waste reduction during continuous improvement sessions.
Adhere to all safety guidelines, ensuring proper handling techniques are used to prevent accidents or injuries.
Support continuous improvement activities such as Kaizen events and process reviews, providing feedback on material flow and handling processes.
Communicate effectively with procurement, production, and other departments to ensure timely material availability.

Education & Experience Required
High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
Availability to work 95% or more of the shift.
Ability to lift to 30 lbs on occasion if required.
Physical Demands
Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand/sit, squat, turn/twist, climb ladders, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls.
Occasionally lift, carry, push or pull up to 30 pounds.
Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
May be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures and workspace restrictions.
Noise level occasionally loud.
Must wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as eye, hearing, respiratory protection, protective smock, steel toe shoes, gloves, hard hats or face shields.
Willing and able to travel by all forms of transportation.
Bonus or Equity This position is eligible for bonus and equity as part of the total compensation package.
