Key Responsibilities
Fabricate, assemble, and repair precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures according to engineering blueprints and specifications.
Operate and set up a variety of machine shop equipment, including lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC machines, to produce components with tight tolerances.
Inspect finished tools and components for accuracy, quality, and adherence to design specifications using precision measuring instruments.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve tooling malfunctions or production issues to minimize downtime and optimize performance.
Interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, and CAD models to plan and execute tooling projects.
Perform routine and preventative maintenance on tooling to ensure longevity and consistent operational efficiency.
Recommended Qualifications
Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Journeyman Tool Maker or in a similar precision machining role.
Proficiency in operating and setting up manual machining equipment (lathes, mills, surface grinders) and CNC machinery.
Demonstrated ability to build, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain complex tooling, dies, molds, jigs, and fixtures.
Strong ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, GD&T, and proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
Knowledge of various metals, alloys, and heat treatment processes relevant to tool making.
Bonus Qualifications
CNC programming and CAM software experience
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD Inventor)
Experience with CMM operation and programming
Jig and fixture design experience
