As a Piping Fabrication Shop Foreman you will be responsible for directly leading pipe fitting fabrication crews within a production-based fabrication shop. This role requires hands‑on fabrication experience and proven ability to plan, sequence, and execute shop work safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.
This is not a field installation foreman position. Candidates must have prior experience working and leading crews in a pipe fabrication shop, producing installation‑ready piping assemblies.
Key Responsibilities: Fabrication Execution (Primary Focus)
Lead daily pipe fitting fabrication activities on the shop floor
Assign work to fitters and welders based on drawings, spool sheets, and work orders
Plan and sequence fabrication tasks to meet production targets
Coordinate materials, fittings, valves, and supports for assigned work
Ensure fabricated assemblies are complete, accurate, and installation‑ready
Monitor productivity and labor hours for assigned crews
Safety & Quality
Enforce shop safety rules, PPE requirements, and JHAs
Lead daily stretch‑and‑flex and toolbox talks.
Ensure work complies with drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
Verify proper fit‑up and support quality inspections and weld coordination.
Identify and correct quality issues before work leaves the shop.
Leadership & Crew Development
Provide direct supervision and day‑to‑day direction to fabrication crews.
Set clear expectations for safety, quality, and productivity.
Train and mentor fitters in fabrication best practices.
Support onboarding of new shop personnel.
Promote accountability, teamwork, and respect on the shop floor.
Coordination & Communication
Coordinate with the General Foreman, Shop Manager, and project teams.
Communicate work status, material needs, and constraints.
Support production planning and short‑interval scheduling.
Assist with workload balancing and shop flow.
Required Qualifications
Fabrication Experience Required.
Journeyman‑level pipe fitting experience with significant fabrication shop time.
Minimum 57 years of pipe fitting and piping fabrication experience.
Prior experience as a shop lead, foreman, or acting foreman in a fabrication environment.
Ability to read and interpret isometric drawings, spool sheets, and fabrication drawings.
Strong understanding of fabrication workflows, materials, and tooling.
Solid knowledge of shop safety and quality requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in self‑perform mechanical prefabrication
Familiarity with model‑based or VDC‑supported fabrication
Experience working with standardized work packages or production tracking
Strong communication and planning skills
Field‑only foreman experience without fabrication shop leadership will not meet the requirements for this role.
