Warehouse Inventory Control I – UNFI
Inventory Control I is responsible for tracking inventory, maintaining accurate records, researching discrepancies, and ensuring proper handling of damaged or spoiled merchandise. The role requires a strong understanding of warehouse layout, slot location, product mix, and safety protocols. Job Overview
The Inventory Control Team tracks all inventory within distribution centers, handles whole-sale adjustments, monitors expiration dates, alerts management to safety concerns, conducts cycle counts, and works with procurement and operations leadership to recommend improvements. Job Responsibilities
Monitors product velocity and tracks lost sales and in‑house damages. Researches inventory adjustments and maintains high service levels (low out of stock). Initiates date checks, periodic cycle counts (3 months for grocery and repack, every 3–4 weeks for cooler/freezer) as well as quality checks. Researches mis‑slots and quality issues, verifies pick slots and back‑stock verification. Processes return-to‑vendor requests. Performs basic slotting. Alerts management of potential safety problems or violations. Tracks expiration dates (particularly cooler/freezer items). Tracks food bank and salvaged product. Performs duties in accordance with HACCP and SQF policies and procedures, as appropriate for location. Job Requirements
Experience
Capability of being licensed in operating powered industrial equipment. Good judgment is required because direct supervision may not be immediately available at times. Knowledge
Understanding of safety guidelines. Strong knowledge of applicable Bakco functions and RF systems. Understanding of all paperwork and reporting methods related to tracking inventory. Have an understanding of procedures in other areas of the warehouse for a more global understanding of all processes. Skills and Abilities
Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills; motivated and takes initiative. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Detail‑oriented and able to manage multiple tasks. Work Environment
This position requires the associate to perform all duties at a UNFI location such as a distribution center or office. Physical Environment/Demands
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently. Exposed to temperatures ranging from –20°F to 35°F in perishable operations and 37°F to 90°F in grocery operations. Requires repetitive arm, wrist, and hand movements. Must work with hands and arms overhead, and in or under equipment. Requires manual dexterity, coordination, and balance for ground and high‑level work. Specific vision abilities required: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and adjust focus. About UNFI
