Work Schedule:

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.; additional shifts available for special events and swim practices.

Responsibilities

Supervise activity of swimmers by enforcing rules and regulations.

Warn swimmers of improper activities or hazards.

Rescue persons in distress or danger of drowning when indicated; provide rescue breathing, CPR, and First Aid.

Notify the NYS DOH of any accidents, rescues, or problems that have arisen.

Check all safety equipment is working properly on a daily basis; report to Aquatic Manager any equipment needing repair.

Successfully and positively perform within work team dynamics.

Be on time and capable of performing tasks within team dynamics.

Supervise all patrons in and around the pool area.

Auxiliary Duties

Answer inquiries pertaining to the use of the pool.

Move lane lines as directed.

Direct all helpful suggestions to the supervisor.

Attend scheduled in‑service training.

Maintain attendance and activity record; complete required reports.

Provide periodic supervision and custodial needs of locker rooms.

Assist in cleaning and maintaining the pool and related areas and facilities.

Qualifications

Knowledge of water hazards, lifesaving techniques, and first aid.

Effective communication skills and ability to engage positively with the public.

Attentiveness to visual and audible cues for recognition and identification of swimmers in distress or engaging in unsafe behaviors.

Proficient swimming ability and proper application of rescue and first‑aid techniques.

Current CPR/AED, First Aid & Lifeguard certifications – training on site provided.

Experience with lifeguarding, CPR/AED for professional rescuers, or any relevant certification.

Capable of working collegially with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students in a university context.

Physical Requirements

Ability to frequently sit, kneel, stand, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects.

Compensation and Working Hours $17.00 per hour. This is a temporary position; working more than 999 hours per year is not approved.
