Gastroenterologist (MD/DO)

Position Summary

The Gastroenterologist provides comprehensive medical and procedural care for patients with disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas, and biliary system. This role includes evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of digestive diseases using evidence-based medical management and endoscopic procedures to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

Must maintain state certification and/or licensure.

Must be legally licensed to practice medicine in North Dakota and/or Minnesota, depending on the location of the practice to which you are assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Evaluate and manage patients with gastrointestinal, hepatic, biliary, and pancreatic disorders

Diagnose and treat conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, liver disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, and gastrointestinal malignancies

Perform and interpret endoscopic procedures including upper endoscopy and colonoscopy, consistent with training and privileges

Provide outpatient gastroenterology clinic care and inpatient consultation services

Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans

Interpret diagnostic studies including laboratory testing, imaging, and pathology results

Collaborate with primary care providers, surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, and other specialists

Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive care

Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and outcomes initiatives

Supervise and educate advanced practice providers, residents, or fellows as applicable

Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards

Qualifications

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school

Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency program

Completion of an accredited Gastroenterology fellowship program

Board-eligible or board-certified in Gastroenterology

Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure

DEA registration or eligibility

Ability to manage complex and chronic gastrointestinal conditions

Commitment to evidence-based practice and patient-centered care

Work Environment

Outpatient clinics, endoscopy suites, ambulatory surgery centers, and hospital inpatient settings

Call responsibilities as determined by practice or service needs

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods during procedures

Manual dexterity for endoscopic and procedural tasks

Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient assessment and procedural monitoring
