Job Overview Groom role at Brays Island Plantation responsible for the care and services of all equine operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

Provide care for approximately 70 horses including feeding, exercising, and special needs.

Assign horses for grooming, bathing, and other needs.

Offer exceptional customer service to owners, guests and internal partners.

Exercise horses and conduct trail rides.

Clean stalls, barns, aisles and maintain equestrian facilities.

Administer minor first aid to horses and consult the veterinarian as needed.

In the supervisor’s or manager’s absence, administer care and advise immediately; otherwise, consult the manager and update the Equestrian Director as required.

Assist in coordinating equestrian activities such as trail/community rides, summer camp programs, and educational clinics.

Perform night checks as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Capable of working extended hours, including weekends and holidays.

Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license.

Must be able to read faint or partially obscured writing with corrective lenses if necessary.

Must speak English clearly and understandably for effective communication.

Position involves sitting, standing, and/or movement throughout the day; transportation between locations on the plantation is required.

Must be able to operate a personal computer, printer, fax machine, telephone, typewriter, and other routine business equipment.

Must be physically and intellectually capable of lifting, carrying, and moving objects weighing up to 75 lbs.

Environmental Requirements

Work both indoors and outdoors, performing tasks in all weather conditions.

Must handle multiple assignments with interruptions, changes, and delays while meeting deadlines.

Must remain focused, efficient, and cheerful in potentially stressful environments.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: 2‑year degree in a related field or equivalent education and experience.

Prior knowledge of equestrian center programs is required; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access is preferred.

Skills: Highly effective interpersonal, problem‑solving, and advanced communication skills.

Experience: 3‑5 years of competent riding experience and 2‑3 years of stable/equestrian work experience.

Personality: Must interact effectively with all types of individuals, remain mentally alert, detail oriented, and possess good reasoning skills.
