Hospitalist Physician (MD/DO) Position Summary The Hospitalist Physician provides comprehensive inpatient medical care to hospitalized patients. This role focuses on the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic medical conditions, coordination of care with multidisciplinary teams, and facilitation of safe, efficient transitions throughout hospitalization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide direct inpatient medical care to hospitalized patients

Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions

Manage admissions, daily patient care, and discharge planning

Coordinate care with consulting specialists, nursing staff, and ancillary services

Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and care coordination activities

Develop and implement evidence‑based treatment plans

Respond to changes in patient condition, including emergencies and rapid response events

Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge instructions

Ensure safe transitions of care and appropriate follow‑up

Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation

Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and utilization initiatives

Supervise and collaborate with advanced practice providers, residents, or medical students as applicable

Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards

Qualifications

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school

Completion of an accredited residency program in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine

Board‑eligible or board‑certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine

Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure

DEA registration or eligibility

Skills and Competencies

Strong inpatient clinical judgment and decision‑making skills

Ability to manage multiple patients in a fast‑paced hospital environment

Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Commitment to evidence‑based, high‑quality patient care

Work Environment

Acute care hospital inpatient setting

Shift‑based scheduling, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout hospital units

Manual dexterity for bedside assessments and procedures as required

Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient assessment

Must maintain state certification and/or licensure.
