Our client is seeking a

Field Service Engineer II

to support advanced semiconductor thin‑film deposition and high‑vacuum equipment at customer sites in the San Jose area. You'll work hands‑on with PVD systems, multi‑chamber cluster tools, robotics, and vacuum technologies inside cleanroom environments. The position involves troubleshooting, installations, preventive maintenance, and direct customer interaction, with opportunities for international training.

This is a full‑time onsite role requiring strong technical aptitude, methodical problem‑solving, and the ability to work independently after structured training.

Note Domestic travel up to 25% with international travel for training

Responsibilities

Travel domestically up to 25% and internationally for training.

Recommend spare parts and consumables for PMs and repairs.

Perform equipment installations and upgrades at customer sites.

Provide training and support to junior technicians as needed.

Collect diagnostic data and communicate findings to engineering teams.

Document all service activities and maintain accurate field service reports.

Communicate effectively with customers and internal engineering teams.

Troubleshoot hardware, software, vacuum, robotics, and control system issues.

Interpret electrical and mechanical schematics to diagnose and resolve problems.

Develop and follow a structured problem‑solving roadmap for equipment issues.

Monitor, inspect, calibrate, and maintain semiconductor process equipment to minimize downtime.

Qualifications/Must Haves

Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Strong analytical and methodical troubleshooting skills.

Experience with multi‑chamber cluster systems and robotics.

Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.

Ability to work independently after 3–6 months of on‑the‑job training.

HS Diploma or GED required, AA or BS in a technical field preferred.

Hands‑on experience with PVD or semiconductor vacuum equipment.

Ability to recommend spare parts and consumables for PMs and repairs.

Familiarity with PLC systems and equipment control software (preferred)

Bilingual communication skills (Japanese/English) helpful but not required.

1–2 years of experience as a Field Service Engineer or Technician in semiconductor equipment, vacuum systems, or related engineering fields.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Extended driving required, sometimes for multiple hours.

Frequent standing, walking, grasping, typing, talking, and hearing.

Occasional kneeling, crouching, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and climbing ladders or stairs.

Close visual acuity required for reading, inspection of small parts, and equipment operation.

Work performed primarily in a cleanroom environment (full cleanroom PPE required)

Exposure to: Moving mechanical parts, electrical systems, chemicals, UV light, and lasers, enclosed spaces, narrow aisles, elevated platforms.

Work may involve time‑sensitive situations requiring rapid troubleshooting and resolution.
