Summer Camp at the JCCSF offers one-week to three-week sessions in both the traditional day camp and specialty camp settings for campers in grades K-8. Art focused Camps are in session June 2 – August 22. Our classic day camps feature arts & crafts, STEAM projects, and sports. Specialty camps include visual arts, nature exploration, musical theater, science and more.
The Art Specialist will create, organize, and implement 1 to 2-week sessions of camp throughout the summer. The camps that the Art specialist will be responsible for leading will include Digital Photography, Animation. The Art specialist will also be responsible for the general art camp Art Adventures. Digital Photography camp is offered for campers in grades 3-5 and 6-8 separately. Campers will be introduced to the basics of digital photography and hone their artistic skills through hands‑on experience and exploration of various techniques. Movie Makers camp is offered for campers in grades 3-5. Campers will be introduced to the creative process around making a movie and developing an understanding of visual storytelling. Animation camp is offered for campers in grades 3-5 and 6-8 separately. Campers will be introduced to the basics of digital animation and the different techniques of animation.
The ideal candidate should have strong classroom management skills and must be able to implement a well‑rounded art curriculum for youth ages 6 - 11. They should also be able to use and demonstrate the usage of multiple techniques, styles, and mediums of art.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Organize and implement the Digital Art Camp curriculum which will include, but not be limited to the following:
Digital Photography
Photo editing
Basics of Movie/Film Production
Basics of Animation
Basics of Fine Art (Drawing, Painting, etc.)
Prepare for and deliver up to 12 weeks of camp programming, including creating supply lists, curriculum development and teaching daily lessons
Supervise general counselors (when applicable)
Support camper drop‑off and pick‑up processes
Provide excellent customer service to camp families by communicating with them about their camper’s experience
Set‑up camp room and cleanup daily
Implement daily safety check of art making tools.
Practice personal leadership skills.
Set clear and consistent limits and resolve behavioral problems with assistance from supervisors.
Additional responsibilities as required.
REQUIREMENTS
At least 1 year as an educator
Knowledge and ability to explain and facilitate age‑appropriate design and tool use skills for elementary school‑aged campers.
Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral.
Passion for art, informal education and youth programs.
Knowledge of summer camps preferred.
Ability to work well both in a team environment and independently.
Must have enthusiasm, flexibility, and ability to improvise.
Must be able to lift 50lbs, stand/walk for approximately 6 hours a day.
WORKING CONDITIONS Will be working directly with youth ages 5-13. Most if not all Art Specialty Camps will take place on‑site at the JCC. We will utilize spaces such as the Art Studio and the individual Camp rooms.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Position requires seated or standing use of a computer throughout the day.
STATUS HOURS
Up to 10 hours of prep work per week (5/1/2026 – 5/31/2026)
37.5 hours per week from 6/1/2026 – 8/7/2025
SCHEDULE Staff Training: 6/1/2026-6/5/2026
Summer Direct Service Hours: June 8 ,2025-August 7,2025
