Are you a strategic, detail-oriented construction professional with a passion for leadership and precision? We’re seeking an experienced
Chief Estimator
to lead our estimating department and drive success on high-end commercial interior projects across NYC.
About the Role As Chief Estimator, you will oversee all estimating operations, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and efficiency in cost proposals, bids and purchasing. You’ll manage and mentor the estimating team, set departmental standards, and collaborate with executives, architects, and clients to deliver competitive and comprehensive estimates. Your leadership will shape the financial foundation of our projects and strengthen client relationships.
Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the estimating department, including training, mentoring, and performance oversight. Develop and implement best practices, processes, and tools for accurate and efficient estimating. Review and approve all major bids and proposals to ensure quality and profitability. Analyze RFPs and historical data to guide strategic pricing decisions. Oversee quantity take-offs, scope reviews, and subcontractor bid evaluations. Oversee procurement activities, strategize vendor and subcontractor engagement, and make recommendations for award decisions to ensure optimal pricing and terms. Collaborate with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and business development strategies. Maintain and enhance estimating software systems, including reviewing technological innovations and developing strategies for adaptation and implementation. Conduct post-project analysis to improve future estimating accuracy and departmental performance.
Qualifications 10+ years
of experience in estimating
NYC commercial interiors , with at least
3–5 years in a leadership role . Proven ability to manage teams and complex estimating processes. Strong blueprint and construction document interpretation skills. Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to manage multiple priorities. Skilled negotiator with a strategic mindset and attention to detail. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and estimating software (On-Screen Takeoff or similar).
Work Environment & Physical Demands Office-based role. Extended periods of computer use and screen time. Fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines and high-level decision-making.
