NSC Staffing is seeking a Maintenance Pipe Welder for an exciting opportunity in Newport News, VA. This position is ideal for highly skilled welders with maintenance, commercial, or naval experience who are ready to perform complex welding in demanding shipyard environments.

Position Overview As a Maintenance Pipe Welder, you will perform multi-pass, all-position fillet and butt welds using the SMAW and GTAW processes on carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper-nickel piping systems. You will also conduct mirror welding in confined or elevated environments and ensure all work meets quality and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Perform multi-pass fillet and butt welds using SMAW and GTAW processes in all positions.
Execute mirror welds using SMAW and GTAW methods on thin-wall pipe.
Heat, cut, and prep materials using Oxygen/Propane torches.
Use and interpret gauges (fillet, butt, six-inch scale) to verify weld quality.
Work safely in confined spaces, trenches, ladders, and staging areas.
Read and interpret drawings, specifications, and weld symbols to ensure proper setup and execution.
Maintain accurate documentation of completed welds and test results.
Welding Qualifications & Testing
Visual Inspection of Welds – Level I
Pre-heat and Interpass Test
Fire Watch CBT
Torch Safety Test & Practical
Welding Qualification Tests: 503, 502, 541, 725, 506, 659, 556, 650, 664, and 557
Testing duration approximately 2½ weeks
All welders must maintain current welding certifications and documentation of their qualifications.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum five (5) years of maintenance, commercial, or naval welding experience.
Proficiency in SMAW and GTAW processes.
Experience with multi-pass, all-position welding on various metals and thicknesses.
Ability to mirror weld and work in physically demanding environments.
Strong understanding of blueprints, weld symbols, and measuring tools.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds.
Work Environment This position requires work in a physically demanding shipyard or industrial setting, including confined spaces, heights, and variable temperatures.
